Halloween Treat boxes (Coffins, and mummies and Spiders, oh my!)

Here's a little peek at what I have been working on since last Friday: I have been making what seems like a gazillion treat boxes for my kiddos to take to school for their halloween pass outs. When I am finished, I don't think I will have a scrap of black, purple, orange, or electric green cardstock (or any halloween paper at all) left in my stash. I do have FOUR kids, you know! I am working on another set of treat bags that aren't finished, much less pictured. Anyway, these are some little coffin treat boxes that I cut using my Cricut and SCAL. You can find a coffin svg file HERE. I didn't like them plain, so I traced and hand cut little tops for the coffins out of patterned paper. I wrapped them in different patterned ribbons, and inked the edges of the coffins. I cut out little spiderwebs from the Paper Dolls Cricut Cartridge, and figured, what's a spider web without a spider? So I printed out a bunch of "Harry the Spider" digistamps from the Cute Halloween set from Lindsay's Stamp Stuff , colored them, and added my homemade "Flower Fluff", which I made from a styrofoam disc that I put in the food processor (trust me, my hubby was giving me some funny looks). It made a pile of soft, fluffy white stuff, that I colored with food coloring, Glimmer Mist, and alcohol inks. This one was a black Wilton gel food coloring that I mixed with water and the fluff in a ziploc, then let it dry on a paper towel. It made a lovely black fluff! I used some Aleene's Fast Drying Tacky Glue on the spider's legs, then sprinkled them with the fluff. It worked great to give them "scratchy-looking" legs!
The other treat holder (The Mummy) was pretty simple-made from toilet paper rolls (I knew I was saving them for a reason!), white crepe paper, and googly eyes. If you would like to know how to make them, click HERE.Thanks for looking! Now, I have to finish the other treat boxes, so head over to Lindsay's blog for a freebie, and then check out the other designers' blogs for more fabulous crafty creations!

  6. Adorable projects! Love them all! My little one is only 2, so we don't have to "share" anything yet, but I'm sure they were or will be a hit at school.

  9. I was going to hand out coffins to my co-workers, but I just didn't have the energy to make 40 of them (the night before!), so I did some match boxes. But after seeing yours, I wish I had gone ahead with the original plan. These are so cute!
