Saturday Scrapbook Stamping: Inspired by Wilna/Stamping With Mist

I am still feeling very inspired by Wilna Furstenberg as I prepare for today's edition of Saturday Scrapbook Stamping. This page was inspired by a layout that she did for her Art and Design workshop at the old Big Picture classes. My page is a little different from Wilna's, but I did want to share what inspired me to get started and go in this direction. I am also using some of the cut files that she included in the class downloads (the die cut title and light bulbs).

This will be an adventure, as I have never stamped with mist before. Won't you come and learn with me?

I started by spraying mist from my April kit into a styro plate:
I then selected some stamps-Tim's stamp set should give just the grungy look I want:

And inked it up. As you can see, the mist pooled quite heavily in some areas:

So I stamped a few times before inking again, and repeated across the center of the page:

I liked the look at this point, but felt like it needed a bit more. So, I dripped the remainder of the mist onto the page:

And this is how it looked when I was finished:

I still wanted a bit more variation, so I gave it a quick shot of mist from about 12 inches above for a fine mist, and then took the nozzle out of the bottle to make few more small drips and splatters with the straw:
*WARNING! Spraying from high above it did cause the mist to over spray my craft mat a little bit!

I liked it at this point, so I let it dry while I did my die cutting, and then mounted it to a sheet of black and white cardstock from my kit:

Now I decided to have a bit of a play with my homemade texture paste:

I wanted it to be yellow, so I dumped some homemade yellow mist (I thought I dumped too much, but it turned out about right):

I mixed it up and added a spritz of Gold Lame as well:

Then I put the light bulbs on the page where I wanted them to be:

And picked them up one cluster at a time, and added a thick layer of the colored paste:

And then set the cut files on top of the paste. After they dried a bit, I pressed them down into the paste a little bit more:

I die cut the title out of a light yellow cardstock scrap, but it was too light, so I decided to mist it with my homemade mist:

There, I like it better already!

I added my photo (after rounding the corners and doing an offset mat on two PL cards from my kit), some scraps, some of the yellow vellum hearts, and some of the black sequins, and a few dabs of Paper Glaze where the light bulbs hadn't adhered completely, adhered the title, and came up with a fun, artsy page, very much inspired by Wilna, that used quite a few bits from my kit, and stamping in a different sort of way!

I hope I inspired you to break out your stamps today!

Counterfeit Kit Challenge April Member's blog hop

Welcome to the April edition of the Counterfeit Kit challenge member blog hop!Today, I am sharing my project for

Challenge #3:  Spring Inspired:  Let Spring help inspire your next project!

Technically, this was supposed to be my challenge for the reveal on the CKCB blog, but the timing just didn't work out for me this month. So, I figured that the blog hop would be the ideal place to share it.
When I saw the challenge was to be inspired by spring, I went over what excites me about spring in my head. I came up with lights, flowers, field trips...I took the only floral paper that was in my kit, and some photos from last year's class field trip with the twins. I still am feeling inspired by Wilna and her videos, so I embraced the artsy, whimsical elements, and mounted part of the title on a swipe of the orange paint from my kit, and painted a journaling spot, as well. I used several embellishment clusters on the page, so I was able to incorporate a few of the vellum pieces, a chalkboard journaling spot, some buttons, brads, and sparkly bits. I anchored the whole page with a strip of patterned paper, and some of the silver glitter tape.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog. I hope you enjoyed today's page, be sure to visit all of the members on the hop for a look at what everyone has been making with their kits this month-you are sure to be inspired!

Scrap Crush Reveal

So, what were your guesses? If you guessed Wilna Furstenberg, you were right! I was first drawn to her scrapbooking when she was a Garden Girl at Two Peas in a Bucket. I love her dreamy style, and I am so inspired by her use of Gelatos and paints-and it has made me want to use my paints, mists, and I even got a set of Gelatos to use in my scrappy endeavors! You can see Wilna's work on her blog and youtube.

Now be sure to head over to the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog to see the scrappy crush reveal for our other designers!I have made several pages inspired by her this month- the stamped ampersand page used ampersand cut files from her Art and Design class, and I really want to try her trick of using a whole package of rub-ons on a page-so when you see that, you know where I got the idea! Do check out her videos and beautiful pages, you won't regret it!

Master Forgers' Scrap Crush Blog Hop

Is there a famous (or not-so-famous) scrapbooker that inspires you? Who influences you in your scrapbooking? I know that I am inspired by many scrapbookers and non-scrapbookers alike. I do my best to cultivate a teachable spirit, as I love to learn, and I try to make myself a sponge that absorbs all of the beauty and inspiration from the world around me. I am inspired by sunsets, signs, television shows and movies, songs...I could go on and on forever! With all of that being said, though, when we were asked to do this "scrap crush" challenge, a particular scrapbooker immediately came to mind. When I first became aware of this talented scrapper's work a few years ago, her style was miles away from my own. But still, I found her work to be quite beautiful and inspiring to me! I still feel that my pages are quite different from hers, from the photos to the finished product, but every time I see her videos or pages, I am inspired to try something new or different, and she has definitely inspired me to get a little bit messier on my scrapbook pages than I had in the past. And that is the biggest hint that you will get from me! You will have to try to guess from my layout who I was inspired by , and it will be fun to see if you can see her influence in my work.
Here is my layout:
Inspiration that I took from my scrappy crush:

  • I used a whole package of embellishments in a line down the center of the page.
  • I painted an area for my journaling.
  • A soft, feminine style.
  • 2 patterned papers mounted on a striped background.
  • I painted my embellishments to give them a watercolored look. (*tip-if you don't have the watercolor in the color you want, you can paint with your mists as well! I painted these with Color Shine mist and October Afternoon Sprinklers)
I had quite a few photos from when my girls got their ears pierced, and since it was over 4 years ago, I wanted to get them into my scrapbook-the perfect solution for lots of photos-a pocket page! I just slipped those photos in the pockets, embellished in the lower right hand corner with a few scraps from the other page, and a flower, just a bit to tie the two pages together. I love that this memory issnow stored away safely in my scrapbook! I can't believe how little they look, and how they have grown in four short years!
So, what do you think? Do you know who my scrappy crush is? I wonder if I have made it obvious or tricky. Leave me a comment to let me know who you think it is-And come back tomorrow to see if you were right!

Here are the rest of the girls that are playing along with the scrap crush challenge:

If you would like to play along too, we'd love to see who inspires you! Just be sure to link up with the Counterfeit Kit challenge blog's Mr. Linky so we can see them!

Scrapbook Stamping Saturday...Background Stamping in a Line

I'm back for another edition of Scrapbook Stamping! Today, I am focusing on adding stamps to my background to add texture to my page. Specifically, stamping in a line on the background of my page.
I started with one of the simpler patterns from my April kit and used all of the ampersand stamps from my kit to stamp a pattern in a line:

And then I took most of the diecut ampersands from the kit (all were cut files from Wilna's Art and Design class) and layered them on top of the row of stamping:

And added lines of ribbons and washi for my page

And here is my completed (STAMPED!) page:

And I have to say, it makes me feel really good to use my stamps on my pages. I am using them instead of just collecting them!  The Easter Eggs and "Happy Easter" were also stamped, using some Studio G Easter stamps:

Thanks for stopping by, I will be back on the 20th with a special post for the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog. You don't want to miss it!

Saturday Scrapbook Stamping: Adding Stamping in Through Layering

Welcome back for another edition of Saturday Scrapbook Stamping. Last week I took the week off for my "Forgeries on the Fourth" post, but I am back to stamping on my scrapbook pages today. One of my favorite ways to use stamps on a scrapbook page is to use them as a layering piece. For this page, I am using my April Fantastic & Fabulous kit, and the background sheet that I made with my homemade texture paste last week. I started with a sketch from My Scraps and More (they are having a fun sketch-a-thon this month!):

There was an additional challenge to "add mist, paint, spray, or ink to your page". So, it was perfect for stamping and using my page with the homemade texture paste! I started my page by layering some strips of paper on the background. I chose a stamp from my kit that was versatile, funky enough for my bright paper choices, but a simple enough shape to use a couple of times. I pulled out my much loved black Staz-On, and stamped right over the paper strips:

I stamped on opposing sides of the page, using the stamp in place of the circle element of the page:
And then, just started adding in other decorative bits like washi tape and a journaling card in place of the frame:
I finished it all off with a sprinkling of other small embellishments from my kit, like the vellum punched hearts, Sparklers in the center of the stamped flowers to help them stand out, and a tiny bit of sequins and bling in my clusters:

So, there you have it. I think the bright colors and scribbly stamped flowers suit my child of the eighties layout very well! Be sure to come back next week for more Scrapbook Stamping on Saturday!

Forgeries on the Fourth: DIY Texture Paste

Welcome to Forgeries on the Fourth, Where we help you make all of the various bits and pieces for your kits. My forgery today is not in the inspiration kit exactly, but was inspired by the inspiration kits' name instead. As soon as I saw that we would be counterfeiting the Messy Box, I knew I wanted my kit to be a messy box of a different sort. I wanted to play with paints and stencils this month, and I knew that a texture paste would be a good addition to my kit. I have had a few recipes for homemade texture paste pinned for quite some time now, so this was just the push I needed to make some. And of course I will share how I made my version!

Here are the ingredients for the paste:

White paint (any brand is fine), cornstarch, glue (I just used Elmers' school glue), and a container.

I started with the Cornstarch (about 2 TBSP):

Then the paint-I just squeezed enough to cover the cornstarch. I ran out of the one kind of paint, so just kept going with another brand that I had on hand. I am not super picky, just go with the flow. And I added the glue ( about 1 TBSP)::

I stirred and then added a tiny bit of cold water mix it a bit better, as it was still a bit lumpy. Tip: stir with a knife rather than a spoon, it is much easier.

I wanted my paste to have a bit of sparkle or shimmer, so I added a couple of teaspoons of Rock Candy Distress glitter. We'll see if it works or not, it is all about creative play and experimentation today, right?

I wanted to see how it worked, looked, and dried, so I decided to apply it through the stencil in my kit. My stencil is 6x6, and my page is 12x12, so I decided to apply it across the center of the page. I applied with an old gift card to the outer two edges first,

and then to the center a few hours later, after the outer edges dried:

I am excited to see where the next month takes us, and trying out a few "messy" additions to my pages.

April Counterfeit Kit Challenge Kit...Fantastic&Fabulous

Introducing my March kit,

This month we were given the fabulous Messy Box  for counterfeiting inspiration:

Here's my (much larger) version, "Fantastic and Fabulous"
Here's a look at just  the papers:

As you can see, I went a little crazy with it! I have always been a fan of Elsie Flanigan/ Elsie Larsen, and her sister, the owners of A Beautiful Mess. I even did a Love, Elsie Blog Focus week over a year ago, about using her paper from several years ago. You see those posts HERE. I still have some of those older Elsie papers, which I included in my kit, along with all kinds of other fun products with a similar feel or vibe. My scrapbooking tends to lean towards a softer feel of doilies, pastels, creams, pinks, and gold. So, it was fun to pull out my bolder scrapbooking stash, and might be why I went a bit overboard. There was so much included in this kit that I took several pictures in the attempt to show the entire kit. Will I use it all? Maybe, maybe not, but I will definitely give it a shot! Here's another look at the whole kit:
I had a bowl of ribbons, die cuts, journaling cards, and flair:
I also filled a palette tray with my itty bitty embellishments:

I did have gold letter stickers, but I have had those black and white houndstooth Thickers for a long time, and they never seemed to fit with my Counterfeit kit. When I looked at my kit for this month, they just seemed to fit! I also included a plain black set for those pages that houndstooth won't work on, and smaller letters for the more extended titles. I really love all of the itty bitty bits in my palette tray; sequins, punched bits, and other leftover pieces and punched vellum scraps. The pieces in the bowl include Project Life cards (mostly from the Midnight set), some chalkboard flair, ribbon scraps. handmade flowers, and some die cut words from a scrappy class I took. I have papers in the kit from Love Elsie, Glitz Wild and Free, Studio Calico, Basic Grey, and several sheets of patterned cardstock from various paper pads by DCWV. I have some "messy" plans for my kit, so I included paints, spray mist, and stamps and stencils.
So, I think I have plenty of kit to keep me going for the month! I hope you will hop around to other Master Forgers' blogs to see the kits they have created this month, and we all hope you will join us and make a kit from your stash! Big or small, we welcome them all! Here is the blog hop list to see the rest of the design team inspiration:
